Objectives

Main Objective

To achieve real-time Condition Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance of firearms by co-designing and co-developing with all participating and closely engaged end-users’ tools, applications and technologies, constituting the RAPTOR’ low-cost, Condition Monitoring System. RAPTOR comprises of low- cost, robust, application-specific, printed sensors; bespoke electronics; robustly-encrypted, wireless communication; and the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms for processing the data into useful information (condition evaluation and forecasting). This will enable the weapon’s operators to respond to critical mission operations in a more effective manner, and to significantly reduce the probabilities of weapon failure by achieving predictive maintenance. The aim is to create a fully interoperable RAPTOR system with European Soldier Systems, achieved through the implementation of Internet of Military Things (IoMT) with embedded security-by-design, along with the edge-cloud continuum.

Project's Aim

The aim of the project will be accomplished through the implementation of the following five complementary Objectives in order to achieve scientific and technical feasibility, provide a significant contribution to the innovations necessary to grow and maintain scientific, business, and technological leadership in the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base.

Design, develop, and validate the operation of robust, low-cost, printed sensors.

Design, develop, and validate in the lab secure-by-design, application-specific IoMT electronic systems.

Design, develop, and validate in relevant lab environments technically robust, safe, traceable, accountable, defence-trusted AI algorithms pertaining to matters of human oversight.

Design the complete system architecture, develop its components, integrate them into a unified system and validate RAPTOR in a representative environment.

Impact maximisation through wide means of Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation, standardisation and policy recommendations including alignment with NATO standards.
